DAN RICO

hello, its me

I am a songwriter, producer, and musician living in Brooklyn, New York by way of Chicago. I’ve released a number of genre-spanning albums and singles, with a new single, “Maybe I’m Scared” out now. I also play guitar and write music with New York rock artists including High Waisted and Dropper. I’m always working on new music and interested in collaborating, hanging out, or just playing something, so drop me a line! hidanrico@gmail.com

My influences are wide-ranging and ever-expanding. I spent my childhood singing and dancing along with Elvis and Michael Jackson tunes. As a teenager I picked up the bass and began playing in punk bands. (I still believe strongly in the ethos and sense of community that punk music brought to the table.) Into my twenties, I played in a number of post-rock, power-pop, post-punk, punk, and rock groups as well as a Prince cover band I fronted called Purple Pain. I also taught myself to play jazz charts and began performing at galleries, and small clubs, singing along to ageless standards. In 2015, my band Ego recorded a concept album every month about the corresponding sign of the zodiac. It was then that I began to really hone my recording and production capabilities. I continue to pursue music today as a means of fostering collaboration, a sense of togetherness, and to question given values and norms in our society. It’s also so much fun. I’m a huge music nerd and love sharing and learning about new music. Please feel free to shoot me an email: hidanrico@gmail.com. Thank you for visiting!
